Questions you should ask when booking a venue last minute

Last minute venues can be a real pain. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered! Whether it’s a function to have in the garden or an extravagant wedding to host, there are some standard questions you should ask the venue before booking.

  • Do they have a license to sell alcohol?
  • Do they have a music license?
  • Is there good public transport nearby?
  • How many toilets do they have?
  • Do they have adequate onsite parking?
  • How much is the room hire per hour or day of event with all the other costs included?
  • What is parking like near the venue if needed (e.g. is it free, permit only, etc)?
  • Is there disabled access?
  • How accessible is the venue for those with mobility issues?
  • What time do they open and close on a daily basis?
  • How much notice is needed in order to host an event at their venue?
  • Can they supply chairs and tables?
  • Do they have anywhere I can hold my ceremony (if applicable) prior to the reception (e.g. in a reception room) or is it just before or after?
  • Are there any restrictions on the number of guests allowed at the event/venue? If so, how many people can I have at my event in total?
  • What time does the CCTV go off and come back on (if applicable)?
  • Do they have occupancy sensors?
  • Is there a disabled access facility nearby that you can use (e.g. toilets)?
  • What is their noise policy?
  • Are there sound restrictions on speakers or noise levels?
  • Was the venue previously a place of worship or non-religious building?
  • How many rooms/buildings are at the venue?
  • Is there any parking available for disabled users and visitors?
  • What time is the security guard on duty (if applicable)?
  • What is their cancellation policy for booking an event at their venue and how much notice do I have to give in order to get a full refund of my deposit/booking fee/etc?
  • Can I bring in my own outside catering without affecting the price of the dining room hire per hour? If so, what times are restrictions (e.g. no outside catering between 1-3pm)?
  • How many toilets do they have and are they private?
  • Can I arrive before or stay after the set time for the event?
  • What happens if the venue is not booked and I need to make changes at short notice?
